Supermarkets and high street shops across the UK are warning that several popular items have been deemed unsafe to consume and anyone who has bought them should return them as soon as possible for a full refund. The Food Standards Authority (FSA) has issued two recent warnings for consumers about the presence of contaminants in foods being sold across the country. One of these is a popular vodka brand that could have isopropyl alcohol in it - an industrial solvent not fit for human consumption.
Some bottles of Glen’s Vodka, which are sold in major supermarkets including Tesco , have been replaced with a counterfeit product containing the chemical. “Consumption of isopropyl alcohol can quickly lead to alcohol poisoning, and in severe cases death,” FSA warns. Isopropyl alcohol will smell and taste different to normal vodka - so if you notice anything different about your alcohol do not drink it, and store it in a safe place while you alert local authorities.
