Alaska Airlines has appointed John Wiitala as its new vice president of maintenance and engineering. In this critical leadership role Wiitala will oversee the team responsible for maintaining the airline’s fleet of more than 237 Boeing aircraft ensuring the highest levels of safety and regulatory compliance across its multiple maintenance bases Wiitala brings a wealth of experience to Alaska Airlines after an impressive 34 year tenure at United Airlines.
Most recently he served as United’s vice president and chief engineer of technical operations safety and compliance where he managed the airline’s extensive fleet. His previous roles at United included vice president of technical services and various engineering leadership positions such as director of engineering and managing director of project engineering.
