Tuesday, November 12, 2024 Every year, the Khasi hills turn into a pink paradise as cherry blossoms take center stage, marking the much-anticipated arrival of Shillong’s Cherry Blossom Music Festival. This November 15 and 16, at the RBDSA Sports Complex, nearly 100 artists from around the world will take the stage, embracing this year’s theme: Year of Legends . Hosted by Meghalaya Tourism and produced by Rockski EMG , the festival promises unforgettable performances by icons like Boney M.
and Akon , blending timeless sounds with the blooming beauty of Shillong. Adding to the festival’s unique appeal, Japan joins as an official partner , deepening cultural ties between the two nations over their shared love for cherry blossoms. The Japanese Ambassador, who visited Meghalaya in 2023, noted the striking similarity between India’s and Japan’s cherry blossoms, sparking this meaningful collaboration.
In celebration, the festival will feature a Japan Arena , where Japanese artists like Zombie-Chang , Amaiwana , DYGL , Nonoc , Newspeak , and Lillies and Remains will perform. Expect special cultural events like a sumo wrestling showcase by the Hirakuza Sumo Team , anime screenings , and a cosplay contest that brings Japan’s vibrant pop culture to Shillong. The two-day event boasts an exciting lineup of international and local talents across multiple stages.
