Pune: Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Tuesday criticised the opposition for questioning govt about the killing of Badlapur sexual assault case accused Akshay Shinde. "The opposition is like an earthworm, difficult to find out which way it will move. When Shinde was arrested, the opposition demanded that he be hanged and now that he is dead, they are questioning govt," he said, adding that a detailed probe will be carried out into the killing.
He said he does not supporting what happened. "The police have said that Shinde snatched the pistol and fired at them. If he was attacking the police, would you expect them to react? The cops fired in retaliation in which he was killed.
A detailed inquiry will bring out the truth," Pawar said at a rally in Solapur's Karmala tehsil on Tuesday. Shinde was accused of sexually assaulting two minor girls at an educational institution in Badlapur. He was killed in police action near Mumbra bypass in Thane when he was being taken to Badlapur from Taloja jail for investigation.
The opposition has targeted the state govt calling it a state-sponsored killing. Responding to the opposition's allegations, Ajit Pawar said, "That man (Akshay Shinde) was so perverted that I cannot give details of his heinous crime. The case became a national issue and there was so much anger that people halted train services in Badlapur for nine hours.
At that time, the opposition blamed govt claiming that women are not safe in the state. They were the ones who want.
