Pune: The airport authorities have told all airlines to mandatorily conduct Secondary Ladder Point Check of all flyers before they board aircraft in the wake of hoax bomb threats. "Security cannot be compromised under any circumstances. Hence, we have asked airlines to conduct the same.
All airlines need to follow this in addition to the existing security protocols ," Pune airport director Santosh Dhoke told TOI on Monday. Secondary Ladder Point Check (SLPC) is a secondary-level security process under which the airlines' staffers scan passengers' hand baggage and frisk flyers right before they board the aircraft, after the primary security check done by the Central Industrial Security Force ( CISF ) personnel. At times, the SLPC is conducted before flyers board buses taking them to the aircraft.
Dhoke said the CISF contingent had been asked to minutely check the hand baggage of all flyers during security check-in. "Flyers are not facing any hassles during the security check at present, and it is taking a maximum of 7 to 9 minutes in peak hours," he said. The airport director said security had been tightened in front of all departure and arrival gates of the airport.
"We haven't asked flyers to reach the airport early yet. We will assess the situation as Diwali approaches," Dhoke said. Some flyers said they were making it a point to reach the airport early.
