Have you ever fancied following in the footsteps of ancient warriors? Relishing the cacophony of swords on an ancient spot where the most respected gladiators spilt blood, sweat and tears? Thanks to a thrilling new Airbnb experience, two select groups of movie fans will do just that. To celebrate the release of Gladiator II , Airbnb has announced its most intriguing experience yet, immersing travellers in the world of Ancient Rome. After dark on Wednesday 7 May and Thursday 8 May, a group of 16 budding fighters – eight guests and their companions – will join host Lucius inside the Colosseum in Rome .
The largest ancient amphitheatre ever built hosted some of the ancient world’s most notorious battles, as citizens took each other on before crowds exceeding 50,000. Luckily, there’ll be no bear battling or rhino slaying next May as the Master of Ceremonies greets groups after sunset and leads them through the great gates of the amphitheatre. Guests will be guided through the torch-lit underground chambers and prepare for combat, donning armour just as the gladiators would have done almost 2,000 years ago.
Two seasoned gladiators will battle it out as attendees feast on a spread – much-needed sustenance before they’re invited to take their turn. This is the latest in a series of incredible Airbnb experiences. While many travellers may be inclined to embark on a tour of London’s hidden pubs , a lip-smacking tapas crawl through the streets of Madrid or a morning yoga .
