Friday, August 23, 2024 airBaltic proudly unveils the 48 most beloved cities across the Baltics, chosen by public vote, that will adorn their Airbus A220 aircraft in celebration of Baltic unity. Latvia’s national carrier, airBaltic, is excited to share the results of a unique voting event where fans were invited to name each of the 48 Airbus A220-300 aircraft in its fleet after cherished cities across Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania. This initiative marked the 35th anniversary of the Baltic Way and garnered extensive engagement from both the Baltic region and internationally.

The voting period, which stretched from August 5 to August 22, saw over a million votes cast in total. The 35th anniversary of the Baltic Way is a momentous occasion celebrating unity across the Baltic States.



By naming our aircraft after cities in Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania, we honor this event and strengthen the connection among nations. It is a privilege to have our fleet carry the names of these cities worldwide, showcasing our unity and pride.” The national airline of Latvia, airBaltic, has successfully wrapped up its naming contest to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Baltic Way.

In this event, participants voted to name 48 of the airline’s Airbus A220-300 planes after popular cities in Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania, with each country contributing 16 cities. The named cities are as follows: Open to all, the contest allowed daily voting and welcomed participants from any nationality to vote for cities holding official city status within the Baltic countries. The Baltic Way anniversary commemorates the historic peaceful demonstration on August 23, 1989, when about two million people formed a 600 km long human chain through the Baltic states to express their solidarity and desire for independence from Soviet control.
