Monday, August 26, 2024 AirAsia, in collaboration with the Singapore Tourism Board, boosts the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore route’s prominence with a record-breaking Airbus A320 in August 2024. The Kuala Lumpur-Singapore route ranks among the world’s most heavily trafficked international air routes, often claiming the top spot depending on the season and seat capacity allocated. In August 2024, this route offered a total capacity of 477,568 seats, second only to the Hong Kong-Taipei route, which provided 582,955 seats.

The Kuala Lumpur-Singapore route plays a vital role in the economic and travel dynamics of Malaysia, Singapore, and the broader ASEAN region. As a leading carrier in the region, AirAsia continually champions air travel, recently unveiling an aircraft with a striking new ‘Love, Singapore’ livery. On August 22, 2024, AirAsia, in partnership with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), Gardens by the Bay, and Mandai Wildlife Group, revealed a striking new A320 livery.

This distinctive design is a key element of a collaborative campaign aimed at boosting inbound travel to Singapore, particularly targeting visitors from Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia, to capitalize on the year-end travel surge in the region. The 2010 Airbus A320-200, with registration 9M-AHZ and MSN 4361, now showcases a vibrant new livery designed to inspire travelers to rediscover Singapore’s rich and diverse attractions. The livery highlights iconic sites like Gardens by the Bay and the Mandai wildlife parks, including Singapore Zoo and Bird Paradise.

At the heart of this design is Merli, Singapore’s lively and charismatic brand character, inspired by the Merlion, the nation’s official mascot. AirAsia Malaysia’s Managing Director, Dato’ Captain Fareh Mazputra, expressed pride in partnering with the Singapore Tourism Board, especially as the airline commemorates 20 years of operations in Singapore. According to ch-aviation, AirAsia Malaysia (AK) operates a fleet of 106 Airbus narrowbody aircraft, with approximately 80% currently active.

The fleet comprises 70 Airbus A320-200s, 29 A320neos, four A321neos, and three A321-200(P2F) freighters. The ‘Love, Singapore’ A320-200, delivered to AirAsia in July 2010, features a standard configuration of 180 seats arranged in a single-class 3-3 layout. The A320 was temporarily out of service from August 17 to August 23, but it re-entered service on August 24, debuting its new livery on a flight from Kuala Lumpur International (KUL) to Bangkok Don Mueang International (DMK).

Since its return, the aircraft has been operating routes from Kuala Lumpur to various destinations, including Jakarta (CGK), Bali Denpasar (DPS), and Phu Quoc (PQC) in Vietnam. To kick off the ‘Love, Singapore’ promotion, AirAsia is offering special low fares starting from RM78 ($18) all-in, one-way, on direct flights from Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kuching, Ipoh, and Kota Kinabalu to Singapore Changi Airport (SIN). These promotional fares are available for booking until August 30, 2024, with travel valid from now until June 30, 2025.
