Friday, August 30, 2024 Last evening in Sydney, at the prestigious Australian Aviation Awards 2024, AirAsia X (AAX) was honored with the Best International Airline of the Year award. The ceremony, renowned for its stringent assessment criteria, evaluates participants on various fronts including growth, leadership, innovation, and overall contributions to the Australian aviation sector. As a key player in medium-haul air travel, AirAsia X operates under the expansive AirAsia brand, which includes seven distinct airlines.

AAX’s fleet of widebody A330 aircraft offers flights from Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth to Kuala Lumpur, boasting three distinct cabin zones: Premium Flatbeds, a Quiet Zone, and Economy. AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail said: “Australia holds a special place in our hearts as the very first destination we flew to when operations first launched in November 2007. It remains one of our core markets and I am truly thrilled and honoured to receive this prestigious accolade.

“This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the AAX incredible team, who have worked tirelessly to bring us out of the most challenging times in aviation history and I dedicate this award to them. “Together, we have emerged stronger than ever, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing the safest, most affordable, and reliable air travel experience for our guests with an exceptional inflight experience. “We are continuously enhancing our products and services, and we have exciting plans for significant growth in the near future.

Our ambition is to cover the majority of continents, ensuring that Australians have even more value and choice when it comes to their travel options. “I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to the Australian Aviation and Momentum Media events teams and the judges for this incredible honour. This recognition inspires us to continue striving for even greater excellence in everything we do.

” Australian Aviation Editor Adam Thorn said: “ Huge congratulations to AirAsia X, who won International Airline of the Year at our Australian Aviation Awards. The judges were hugely impressed not only by its passenger performance, but technological innovations and commitment to sustainability.” Expanding its reach, AAX currently serves 23 international destinations with recent additions like Almaty, Kazakhstan, and Nairobi, Kenya—set to commence this November.

This expansion not only enhances the travel options for Australians but also connects them to six other AirAsia-branded airlines. These additional services facilitate low-cost, extensive connectivity to over 130 destinations throughout Asia and beyond. In 2019, AAX transported over six million passengers and continues to focus on route expansion to include both popular and lesser-known destinations across Asia.

The Australian Aviation Awards, now in its third year, is rapidly setting the standard for aviation excellence in the Asia-Pacific region and globally, celebrating the notable entities and individuals advancing the industry..
