While we often talk about AirAsia as one entity, it is sometimes also helpful to look deeper into what the constituent airlines are doing, such as what AirAsia Indonesia has been up to this month. Last week, AirAsia Indonesia made history when it inaugurated a nonstop route from Bali to Cairns in Far North Queensland, Australia. More connectivity in Asia-Pacific As well as making it easier for Australians to get to one of their favorite international holiday destinations, earlier in August AirAsia Indonesia also announced nonstop flights to Hong Kong from Jakarta and Bali.



The new services marked the first time an AirAsia Indonesia (AAI) aircraft had landed in Cairns, and it is the only low-cost carrier providing nonstop flights from Hong Kong to Bali and Jakarta. The inaugural flight to Cairns departed on August 14 from Denpasar Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) at 23:51 and, after a flight of 04:15 hours, landed in Cairns at 06:05 the following day. The flight was operated with a 2013 Airbus A320-200 , registration PK-AZD and MSN 05627, which left Cairns Airport (CNS) at 07:31 and arrived in Bali at 10:04.

This particular Airbus A320-200, one of 32 in the airline's fleet, operates almost exclusively on the Denpasar to Perth (PER) and Denpasar to Singapore routes. The flying schedule sees the A320 leave Denpasar at 01:05 for a return trip to Perth, Western Australia, followed by a 12:45 flight from DPS to Singapore Changi Airport that arrives back in Denpasar at 18:55. The Bali to Cairns flight will operate three times weekly from Denpasar on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, with the return flights from Cairns the following morning.

The new route will inject more than 28,000 seats into the Cairns market in the first year, and AAI CEO Veranita Yosephine said the airline is thrilled to be in Cairns for the first time ever with great value services to guests in Australia and Indonesia. "We see great demand, not only for this new direct route. Everyone loves Bali, but at the same time, we see many opportunities to promote the incredible tourism highlights in the far north of Queensland to our international guests, like the Great Barrier Reef and to visit the amazing world-renowned rainforests.

" The arrival of four Airbus A320neos and the launch of AirAsia Cambodia international services marks more progress by AirAsia in 2024. The route will also be a conduit for people in Far North Queensland to not only enjoy Bali but also to link into AirAsia's network of more than 130 destinations. Last year, approximately 1.

37 million Australians visited Indonesia, and this year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Closer ties to Hong Kong AirAsia Indonesia announced it is launching nonstop flights from Bali and Jakarta to Hong Kong, making AAI the only low-cost carrier providing nonstop flights from Hong Kong to these two popular destinations. The route between Denpasar and Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) will commence on October 1, 2024, and the service to Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International (CGK) on October 8, with both routes operating once daily.

Speaking about these new routes, AAI CEO Veranita Yosephine said the airline is committed to providing the best service and expanding its flight network to meet the increasing needs and demands of passengers, whether for vacation trips with family and friends or for business trips. "With the introduction of these new routes, Indonesia AirAsia hopes to support the growth of tourism and the economy between both sides.

" The schedules show that flight QZ300 will depart DPS at 00:45 and arrive in Hong Kong at 05:35, with the return QZ301 leaving at 06:55 and landing in Bali at 11:50. The service from Jakarta, flight QZ400, is scheduled to leave CGK at 06:50 and arrive in Hong Kong at 12:35, before departing HKG as flight QZ401 at 13:20 and landing in Jakarta at 17:20. From those airports, AirAsia aircraft offer nonstop flights to destinations including Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Penang, Bangkok Don Mueang, Chang Mai and Manila..
