The medical staff accidentally dropped the needle inside the woman's vagina while stitching her up after childbirth. Then, they were unable to find it! A woman had been in excruciating pain for close to two decades. Then, she made a discovery so shocking, it ended up becoming global news.
According to news reports, a woman in Thailand was in agony for almost 20 years after medical staff at a hospital left a foreign object inside her vagina during the birth of her child. Now, at the age of 36, the woman claims that the nurse who was attending to her back then, had 'accidentally dropped' a regular needle into her vagina some 18 years ago, while trying to stitch her up after childbirth. The woman purportedly told the non-profit Pavena Foundation for Children and Women -- whom she had reached out to for help earlier this month -- that the doctor who was handling her case had even tried to 'use his fingers' to retrieve the needle, but could not find it.
It was lost in her body. Fearing for his patient's life owing to a lot of blood loss, the doctor apparently decided that he would not prolong the suturing process. Instead, he stitched her up without removing the needle from her vagina.
According to news reports, the woman began to feel constant and crippling pain in her lower abdomen soon after the procedure. Sometimes, it would turn severe. Fortunately for her, an X-ray done last year showed the exact position of the needle that continued to be lodged in her body.
Doctors decided.
