Pune: Some relief may be in store for flyers arriving at the city airport, who plan to use the cab pickup point at the AeroMall . Authorities on Wednesday confirmed that aggregator company Ola has agreed to come on board for a different OTP/PIN-based system to be used by passengers waiting to get cabs, in an effort to smoothen the flow. Cab aggregator Uber is already utilizing the system here.

YS Rajput, vice president of the AeroMall authority, told TOI, “Uber has been using the system in several of its segments and now, Ola has also joined with its Ola Prime and Ola Prime Plus segments, which account for over 30% of bookings done from the airport. We hope that with this, crowding and disorder at the cab pick-up point decrease.” He added, “We are still in talks with the aggregators to use the system for all segments at Pune airport.

We expect they will start in other segments in coming days after observing the response of customers and the drivers’ acceptance of the scheme.” As per the new flow, upon booking a cab, the passenger receives a PIN number. Thereafter, the passenger can sit in any of the cabs available first and give the number to the driver.

The destination will then reflect in the driver’s app after he inputs the PIN. Flyers remained apprehensive. “If not at the AeroMall, drivers they will complain during the ride if the trip is short and find ways to overcharge.

It is strange that the airport authorities have not been able to find any solution till now,” said frequent flyer Tirth Bhajan.
