Prayagraj: Police on Wednesday launched fresh probe into the Tuesday incident in which a 22-year-old girl, resident of Allahapur, preparing for competitive exams, fell to death from the terrace of a double-storeyed coaching centre near Aeroplane chauraha, Katra under the limits of Colonelganj police station. Police are scanning CCTV footage to compile evidence and inputs to probe the incident. Initial probe revealed that the girl had jumped off the second floor of the coaching after a tiff with her friend.

Police detained the friend for interrogation after registering FIR under appropriate sections of BNS. ACP (Colonelganj) told TOI that police were probing the case thoroughly and had detained the deceased’s friend for quizzing. He added that the girl had jumped off the coaching’s terrace before two others including the friend could stop her.

Eye-witnesses told police officials that the girl on Tuesday noon was spotted in a heated exchange with her friend over some issues near a local bus stop. Her friend, a Rae Bareli resident, was known to her for one and a half year. Eye-witnesses said the youth had snatched her mobile and smashed it on the ground and also hit her.

The coaching was closed for three days on account of Rakshabandhan festival but the girl managed to get inside. A labourer, who was working inside the coaching centre, told police that the girl went straight to the terrace and jumped off. She was taken to the hospital where doctors pronounced her dead.

Police said that in the CCTV footage, her friend could be spotted standing outside the coaching. He told police that he had called the girl after one of his friends sent him a message to tell him a few things about her.
