Over the years, SLB has directed several hit films, including Padmaavat, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Devdas, and others.

Recently, Sanjay Leela Bhansali ventured into directing a series, which also turned out to be a massive hit. His star-studded Netflix series, Heeramandi, was widely loved by the audience. Now, another big-shot director in the industry is all set to direct a series as grand as Heeramandi.

This director heads one of the biggest production houses in India and has delivered hits that people continue to enjoy years later. This director is set to make his OTT debut with a big-budget web series for Netflix. If you’re wondering who we are talking about, it is none other than Dharma Productions’ owner, Karan Johar.

Sources familiar with the development reveal that the project holds a special place in Karan’s heart and will be led by prominent female stars of Indian cinema. “After collaborating with Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Heeramandi, this Karan Johar directorial is the next marquee project in Netflix’s repertoire. Karan will be the showrunner for this yet-untitled web series.

The script is locked, and the plan is to take it on the floor in the first quarter of 2025,” reveals a source close to the development. The report claims that Karan is excited to work on this project and has been closely coordinating with his team. “The web series has now entered its casting stage, and the aim is to assemble an ensemble cast of renowned actors.

Being a Karan Johar show, the web series is regarded as Netflix’s most ambitious upcoming project. It will be shot throughout 2025 and is set to stream in 2026,” the source added. Once the production of the web series is completed, Johar will move on to his 8th theatrical directorial, which is said to be a magnum opus action film.

His upcoming production ventures under the Dharma Productions banner include the Alia Bhatt-led Jigra, an untitled courtroom drama starring Akshay Kumar and Ananya Pandey, and Shashank Khaitan’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, featuring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, among others.
