After the massive success of James Cameron’s sci-fi flick Avatar in 2009, the highest-grossing movie of all time, the director plotted his ambitious plan of continuing the blue saga with four more films. But it took Cameron 13 years to come up with the sequel Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), which became the third-highest grossing movie of all time. With more movies on the horizon, the title of the third installment was revealed at D23 2024: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, along with its release date.

Now, the filmmaker has also shared major updates about Avatar 4 and 5 at a time when rumours suggested Cameron might not take the director’s chair for the upcoming sequels. The director, who turns 70 on August 16, addressed the speculation in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter clarifying he still has plenty of energy left in him to lead the future sequels. James Cameron said, “I mean, they’re going to have to stop me.



I got plenty of energy, love doing what I’m doing. Why would I not?” In addition to this, the veteran director also confirmed the script for Avatar 4 and 5 are already written. “They’re written, by the way,” he teased.

“I just reread both of them about a month ago. They’re cracking stories. They’ve got to get made.

In The Way of Water, fans were introduced to a different side of Pandora with the feature of Ocean Na’vi and now the third installment is set to focus on Ash people, volcano-dwelling beings.
