Amendment 2. Governor Andy Beshear. The national presidential race: Rocky Adkins had a lot of ground to cover in his visit to Pulaski County on Thursday night.
Having gone from a Primary challenger to Beshear five years ago to his senior advisor soon after Beshear’s claiming of the governor’s mansion, Adkins remains one of the most notable Democrats in Kentucky politics. A native of Elliott County in far eastern Kentucky, and former basketball player for Morehead State University, Adkins served in the Kentucky House of Representatives from 1987 through 2019, and was the Majority Leader from 2004 until 2017. Called a local “crowd favorite” by Pulaski County Democratic Party chair Dr.
Rodney Casada, Adkins spoke at the “Cookout with the Candidates” event held Thursday evening by the Pulaski County Democratic Women’s Club and the Pulaski County Executive Committee at the Lake Cumberland Farmers Market building, the Citizens National Bank Pavilion. Around 125 people were in attendance, and enjoyed a meal of outdoor-grilled hot dogs and hamburgers as they listened to Adkins rally Democratic support ahead of the 2024 General Election. Beshear is not in that race, nor other candidates for major state constitutional offices; instead, the focus is on the national scene and the race for President of the United States between Democrat Kamala Harris, the sitting vice president, and Republican Donald Trump, who served as president in the previous term.
