Vadodara: Former Baroda Ranji skipper Aditya Waghmode has decided to hang up his boots. Waghmode sent a letter announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket to the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) on Thursday. The last Ranji match he played for Baroda was in 2020 against Saurashtra.
"My journey from 2005 to 2024 has been the most wonderful years of my life representing Baroda at different age groups till Ranji Trophy . I am grateful for the opportunities given to me by the Baroda Cricket Association," Waghmode wrote in his letter. Waghmode, a southpaw and off-spinner, made his Ranji debut for the Baroda Ranji team in 2010-11 against Karnataka.
The 34-year-old all-rounder had a fairly good run with the bat in the subsequent seasons. The BCA even made him Baroda team's skipper for the Syed Musthaq Ali T20 Trophy in 2013-14, and the team went on to become national champions in the tournament. He was then made captain of the Ranji squad in 2014-15.
"I always enjoyed playing cricket and the BCA gave me the opportunity at the right time. Playing for Baroda and captaining the side was an honour for me," Waghmode told TOI. He played 68 first-class matches for Baroda in which he scored 3,912 runs at an average of 35.

But I will be associated with professional cricket in some way or another," Waghmode added.
