Monday, November 25, 2024 South Australian Tourism Commission joins Tourism Australia’s major India trade mission, showcasing Adelaide as a prime destination for Indian travelers. The South Australian Tourism Commission played a significant role in one of the most extensive trade missions to India organized by Tourism Australia, led by Managing Director Phillipa Harrison. The mission’s primary goal was to stimulate interest in tourism experiences beyond the usual hotspots of Sydney, Melbourne, and the Gold Coast.

South Australia, with its vibrant capital city of Adelaide, aims to position itself as a compelling alternative for Indian leisure and corporate travelers, leveraging its unique attractions and rich offerings. Damien Kitto, CEO of Business Events Adelaide, emphasized the rising appeal of alternative Australian destinations among Indian travel agents and corporate clients. This sentiment was strongly reflected in focused discussions held with trade partners in Delhi and Mumbai, underscoring the potential of regions like South Australia to capture a larger share of the Indian tourism market.



On the aviation front, Jonathan Cheong, Head of Aviation Business – Development & Commercial at Adelaide Airport, highlighted the growing influx of Indian visitors. He revealed that the airport welcomed 120,000 Indian travelers this year, marking a 46% increase compared to the pre-pandemic figure of 80,000.
