Prime Video has officially given the green light to a college-set romance drama based on a bestselling series of novels. Written by Elle Kennedy, the author already has links to Netflix ’s smash-hit Bridgerton series as the show’s creator Chris Van Dusen will be adapting another one of her books, Girl Abroad, for television. Now, Amazon’s streaming service has confirmed her wildly popular Off Campus series of novels will be brought to the screen.
The first season will be based on Kennedy’s 2015 book The Deal, with the possibility of eventually adapting the other four novels. Off Campus also has a collection of four spin-off novels dubbed the Briar U series, which could very well come into play if the first season is a success. A synopsis via TVLine describes the series as following “the unlikely romance between a wry, hockey-hating music major and Briar University’s playboy star center.
“The series depicts the elite ice hockey team, and the women in their lives, as they grapple with love, heartbreak, and self-discovery - forging deep friendships and enduring bonds while navigating the complexities that come with transitioning into adulthood.” The Flight Attendant scribe Louisa Levy will serve as showrunner for the series which could have the potential to beat out the likes of Bridgerton as TV’s top romance. One die-hard fan described Kennedy’s novels on Goodreads as “steamy, sweet, and hilarious and had just the right amount of drama and angst to keep us.
