We have a Civic Type R as well as a Acura Integra Type S which makes things interesting for enthusiasts. HRC, the racing department of Acura, has now given the Integra Type S a more hardcore treatment. Lets get the boring stuff aside, there is no extra power from the 2.
0L turbo petrol but the interesting part is that there are upgrades to the powertrain. It gets a bigger intercooler, twin oil coolers and an exhaust right out of the Integra race car. The more prominent upgrades are on the outside and in the weight.
There is an extensive aero upgrade which includes a front splitter, new side skirts, vents in the hood for additional cooling and a large wing at the back which somehow looks crazier than that of the Type R. Acura has also put the Type S on a diet. There is a carbon fibre hood, new Recaro bucket seats, lightweight rear door cards, and the rear seats have been done away with.
HRC has put a carbon fibre chassis brace in the place of the rear seats which is painted in bright yellow matching that of the car. HRC has also deleted the air conditioning system which we are not sure about since this is still very much a road car but all this means that the total weight savings account to 90 kgs which is quite a lot. The chassis also gets quite a lot of upgrades.
There is new adjustable suspension which can drop the height of the vehicle by 15mm, camber plates borrowed from the Type S racecar and adjustable rear anti-roll bar. The brakes are now 6-piston brembo units combined with two piece rotors. The wheels are also different and are forged units wrapped up in Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo RS tyres and this setup gives the Type S 30mm wider track width.
HRC might offer these upgrades as accessories but we are not sure when the parts will be available to the consumers. We are glad that HRC is working towards offering meaningful upgrades for its performance models and this beautiful Indy Yellow Pearl Integra Type S is definitely a winner..
