Mysuru: Former minister and MLC Umashree on Saturday asked youths to focus on theatre , which has been facing challenges due to the advancement in new media and the entertainment industry in a technology-driven world. She was speaking after inaugurating a national seminar organised jointly by Karnataka State Dr Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University and Karnataka Nataka Academy at the university campus in the city. She said theatre educates, entertains and sensitises society from time immemorial, contributing in its way by highlighting the issues, problems, and prospects for the progress of the nation.

The theatre has also contributed to the promotion of various forms of arts, including music, dance, folklore, and other forms of Kannada literature. She assured that she would make all her honest efforts to draw the attention of the govt to look into the demands of the music university to have its campus, building, and hostel for its students. She asked all artistes, theatre personalities, and musicians to fight unitedly to prevail upon the state govt to fulfil their demands.



Karnataka Nataka Academy chairman KV Nagarajamurthy asked theatre troupes to strive hard to uphold the culture and unity in diversity by giving importance to encouraging such stage plays to sensitise the masses to build a progressive country. The theatre medium must uphold truth and must not give scope to distort the history of the land. Vice-chancellor of the music university Nagesh V Bettakote appealed to the state govt to release the grants for the construction of its building and campus as it has already given five acres of land.
