Actor Minu Muneer revealed that she was compelled to leave the Malayalam film industry and relocate to Chennai, citing certain 'incidents' that transpired there as the primary reason. Published: August 26, 2024 3:31 PM IST By Edited by The findings of Hema Committee’s findings have set off a fresh surge of accusations in the Malayalam cinema world, resulting in a growing number of actors facing allegations of inappropriate sexual behaviour. Actress Minu Muneer publicly disclosed on Monday that she suffered physical and verbal offense at the hands of multiple fellow actors.

This includes a politician who served twice as a CPI(M) representative in Kerala’s Assembly. These revelations follow the pressured resignations of the head of Kerala’s State Chalachitra Academy, Ranjith, along with the secretary of the actors’ association, Siddique. Minu said, “I will file a complaint with the state police team, which was assigned to look into the revelations which came up in the wake of the Hema Committee report.

” She brought up a serious allegation against an actor asserting that he tried to harm her at a hotel during the shoots of ‘Calendar’ in 2009 and ‘Nadakame Ulakam’ in 2011. Minu Muneer claimed, “He entered the room and pulled me down on the bed saying that I will have to consider those who have to be considered for getting better chances. Later, I left that place.

. Before that, while travelling by car, (another actor) told me that he would come to my room the next night. He too had knocked at my door during the night,” she claimed.

The actress further revealed, “During a shooting in the state capital, when I was returning from a restroom, (this actor) caught me from behind and kissed me. I pushed him down and ran away. He also invited me to his flat.

After I rejected the invitation, there was no issue from his side.” Minu has shared that back in 2013, she sought to join the Association of Malayalam Movies Artistes, (AMMA). During her time there, she came across some unsavoury behavior from an actor who, interestingly enough, used to hold a significant position within the organisation.

“A person who acted in three films is eligible for membership in AMMA. When I called him over the phone regarding filling out the application form, he invited me to his flat. While I was filling out the application form at his flat, he kissed my neck from behind.

I ran out of the flat. I did not get the membership either.” The actress revealed that due to the circumstances she encountered, it became inevitable for her to leave the Malayalam film industry and relocate to Chennai.

”I am now seeking justice and accountability for the sufferings and trauma I had endured,” the actress added. The actors haven’t voiced any reactions yet in the public sphere. Interestingly though, one actor had previously indicated a willingness for a probe, recognising that it was but a matter of time before such revelations came to light.
