Starting January 27, new regulations will take effect on the roads of the UAE capital, targeting heavy vehicle movement in Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi Mobility, previously known as the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), revealed this week that heavy vehicles, including trucks and tankers, will face restrictions during peak traffic hours. This measure is designed to improve road safety and streamline traffic flow.
If you’ve ever found yourself trailing a slow-moving truck at 60 km/h in a zone meant for 100 km/h speeds, you’ll understand why this change is significant. From Monday to Thursday, during peak hours between 6:30 AM and 9:00 AM, as well as from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, heavy vehicles will no longer be permitted on Abu Dhabi’s roads. On Fridays, these restrictions will apply from 6:30 AM to 9:00 AM and again from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
This initiative not only promises smoother traffic flow but also aims to reduce infrastructure wear and tear caused by large vehicles. This initiative is also being rolled out in neighboring emirates, where road freight contributes significantly to traffic congestion. With these changes, drivers in Abu Dhabi can look forward to smoother commutes during peak hours.
However, authorities continue to emphasize the importance of adhering to speed limits, following traffic regulations, and practicing safe driving habits to ensure safety for all road users..
