Wednesday, October 2, 2024 ABTA has initiated a new series of complimentary training sessions aimed at its members to enhance their grasp of biodiversity’s role in travel and tourism and to better integrate these concepts into their sustainability initiatives. Titled the Biodiversity Literacy for Travel and Tourism Workshops, these sessions are conducted in partnership with ANIMONDIAL, specialists in biodiversity within the tourism industry. Biodiversity encompasses all forms of life, from plants and animals to microorganisms and their ecosystems, playing a crucial role in the durability of the travel and tourism sector.
Notably, over 80% of the sector’s products and services are derived from natural resources, while since 1970, there has been a 70% decline in global biodiversity levels. The travel and tourism industry holds significant potential to aid in the preservation and restoration of biodiversity, which is vital as nature conservation is key to addressing climate change and pollution issues. Participants in these workshops will explore strategies to include in their sustainability agendas that support environmental conservation, enhance community well-being, and rejuvenate travel destinations.
