Long-suffering motorists used to the slow and interminable crawl along the are resigning themselves to more time staring into the middle distance with temporary traffic lights returning this week. And on Wednesday (January 22) there will be a double whammy of two sets of lights on the busy road linking Cheltenham and Brockworth. The first set of traffic lights are in place at the busy junction with Leckhampton Lane.

This is to install the electricity supply to the new development on Leckhampton Lane and are in place from today (Monday, January 20) to Friday, January 24. This junction is a pinch-point with long tailbacks at peak times during the week at the best of times. Delays are in both directions but particularly bad heading towards Cheltenham in the morning and towards Shurdington and Brockworth in the afternoon and evening.



The second set of temporary traffic lights will be on the stretch of the A46 near Bath Road, from the Painswick Road junction to the Norwood roundabout (where Shurdington Road, Bath Road and Leckhampton Road meet). These are for maintenance work by Severn Trent Water. will be in place on Wednesday from 9.

30am to 3.30pm, so avoiding peak school and rush-hour times. News of more traffic lights on the stretch of road prompted a flurry or resigned reactions from motorists who have long endured long delays on the Shurdington Road between Cheltenham and Brockworth.
