The News Breakfast weather presenter was forced to halt his report in the middle of Tuesday morning's broadcast after suffering an anxiety attack live on air. Appearing on the Carrie and Tommy Hit Network show on Thursday, Nate revealed being on camera in front of the 'weather wall' triggered his panic attack.

'It's very, very different for me and, luckily for me, its only when I'm in that one spot, which should actually be my safest spot,' he admitted. 'It is my favourite spot to be in the world at the weather wall doing my thing. But [it only happens] when I'm on camera.

' Nate also revealed that he was surprised when he began experiencing panic attacks, 'about four or five years ago', especially given his previous career as a lieutenant in the Royal Australian Navy. 'For me, it was in my 30s five years ago or so. I was in the military, I've been on deployment to active war areas.

I'm not a very anxious person ever,' Nate said before detailing how the problem first reared its head. 'A couple of years into being on TV, one day I got told to get into the studio quick. They needed me right now.

So, I ran in got to the weather wall and I was just ever so slightly out of breath.' 'We did find ways for it to be managed,' he added. 'The thing for me is obviously I cant move off the camera, but I do this little thing when I need to.

I just dig my little thumbnail into the side of my finger - not enough to do any damage, but just enough to give me a point of concentration.' 'It's a great coping technique for me but its different for everyone.' Nate also praised radio host Carrie Bickmore for speaking about her own struggles with anxiety on air this week.
