The network announced that Grant Ellis will be the next Bachelor shortly after he was eliminated on Jenn Tran’s ongoing season of The Bachelorette . In yesterday’s episode, Ellis — a day trader, former pro basketball player, and self-proclaimed mama’s boy — told the other guys he was falling in love with Tran after a one-on-one date where he opened up about his father’s history of substance abuse .
She ultimately didn’t give him a rose, so he’ll try to find love again as the star of the 29th season of The Bachelor , which is set to air sometime next year. “As the Bachelor, Ellis is eager to embark on a journey filled with romance, adventure, and genuine connections. He hopes to find a partner who shares his values of loyalty, humor and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures,” an ABC press release said.
In a video shared with Good Morning America , Ellis added that he’s looking for someone who is adventurous, affectionate, and loving. “I can’t wait for this incredible journey to get kicked off,” he said. “It’s going to be so fun and I hope you guys tune in.

Some disgruntled viewers pointed out on social media that because they weren’t able to watch the episode live, they were spoiled before they even knew Grant was going home. Others felt confused by the scale and timing of the news; it’s not typical for a Bachelor to be announced this early in his season of The Bachelorette.
Perhaps in response to fan reactions, ABC exec Robert Mills tweeted , “We are announcing Grant so quickly so people can still apply to be on his season. If you think Grant is potentially the man of your dreams or you know someone who is apply ASAP!!!” Well, guess it can’t be a bad thing to let people know who they’re signing up for, and to give The Bachelor more contestants to pick from for its second-ever Black lead after Matt James.
