An Abbotsford film director and writer has released the first of a six-book suspense series. Milan Skrecek’s book, Shallow Depths, is inspired by his time working as a shopping guide on cruise ships sailing from Miami to the Caribbean. Shallow Depths dives deep into a word of hidden agendas and dark secrets, and is based on an award-winning screenplay currently in pre-production.

At the heart of Shallow Depths is Christina, a sharp and resilient protagonist whose life as a shopping guide on luxurious cruise ships takes a dangerous turn. Beneath the surface of her seemingly glamorous job, Christina runs an exclusive escort service for cruise line guests, navigating a world filled with secrets, betrayal and moral ambiguity. As the stakes rise, Christina is forced to balance the demands of her illicit business with her own survival on board, uncovering dark truths that threaten everything she holds dear.

Her journey pulls readers into the seductive and treacherous world of high-seas intrigue, where danger is always just one step away. Each instalment of the series dives deeper into the mysteries and complexities of its characters and plot lines. Skrecek’s most recent project prior to the book was a short film, Make My Dreams Come True, that he shot in and around Abbotsford in 2023.

The film was accepted to two film festivals in Los Angeles, and public distribution is expected sometime in 2025. Abbotsford locations used in the shoot included the Aurora Cafe in downtown Abbots.
