1 2 Prayagraj: The Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad ( ABAP ) on Saturday passed a resolution to replace words like ' Shahi ' and ' Peshwai ' from two important traditions associated with the akharas during Maha Kumbh . The term Peshwai that comes from Persian language is associated with akharas entering the city before the commencement of the mega religious fair. Similarly, when the akharas proceed for taking a bath on three important days of the Maha Kumbh (Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amavasya, and Basant Panchami), it is called Shahi Snan that comes from Urdu language.
The ABAP's decision comes at a time when Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to visit the mela area on Oct 6 and meet the seers. ABAP president Mahant Ravindra Puri said: "We had welcomed the decision of the Madhya Pradesh govt, wherein the Shahi Savari of Mahakal was changed to 'Rajasi' Savari, and we wanted the same here at Kumbh and Maha Kumbh, which was discussed at the second day of our meeting." He suggested that both names be changed to Hindi or Sanskrit and added that the new words will be decided by the ABAP in the next meeting later this month.
"We will be meeting the CM on his visit and apprise him of our decision of replacing these two words (Shahi and Peshwai) with suitable Sanskrit words which signifies the rich tradition of Sanatan Dharma and not that of Mughals," said Puri.
