Aamir Khan has often spoken about the fact that he has given everything he’s got to the craft of acting and filmmaking. In a recent interview with Nikhil Kamath, actor Ranbir Kapoor said that Khan once told him how he had no relationship with his wife and children because his whole life had been dedicated to making movies. Now, during his recent appearance on Rhea Chakraborty’s podcast, Khan revealed his ex-wife Kiran Rao’s reaction to him wanting to quit films and spend more time with his family.

The actor also spoke about experiencing a mental breakdown and seeking therapy to cope with it. Talking about how his children – sons Junaid and Azad, and daughter Ira – reacted to his decision to quit films, Khan said, “When I told them three years ago that I am quitting films, their reaction, according to me, was, ‘Papa, how will you quit films? You’ve been involved like crazy for the past 30 years. You must be emotional right now and saying this.

But you will not be able to do it.’” However, Ira and Junaid understood the seriousness of the decision when Khan called a meeting with major stakeholders of his production house – Aamir Khan Productions – including Rao, to announce his decision to quit films, asking them to take the company over. But, ultimately, no one agreed to the same.

A post shared by Kiran Rao (@raodyness) Khan said that his ex-wife Rao’s reaction significantly altered his perspective. During the conversation, Khan said Rao was deeply disturbed by his decision. Rao broke down and said, “You’re leaving us all.

” When Khan said he was only quitting to spend more time with the family, Rao replied, “No, you do not understand this right now. If you’re quitting films, you are a child of cinema..

. you are made for cinema, and if you are leaving it, then you are letting go of life and the world. We are part of that world too, so you are leaving us too.

” Khan’s son Junaid compared his father’s decision to a pendulum. Junaid Khan told his father Aamir Khan, “Papa, you are like a pendulum. When you were doing films, you were on one extreme; now that you want to spend time with the family, you are on the other extreme.

You are such an extreme man and, again, you are taking an extreme step.” A post shared by Rhea Chakraborty (@rhea_chakraborty) Khan then recalled having a ‘mental breakdown,’ and said, “This incident caused a mental breakdown. I had a proper mental breakdown.

I went through solid pain. I was distressed. I was broken by the time I had my first realization.

The realization that when my kids were young – when Ira was 3 years old, 8 years old, 12 years old – I was never there for them. I wasn’t totally absent, like, I would spend time with them like any normal working father, but even though I was with them and with my mother, I was mentally never present with them.” Khan said he sought therapy to deal with the mental breakdown, which helped him navigate the dilemma.
