It has become a defining moment in television history and a pivotal point for the Royal Family. Now the infamous BBC Newsnight interview between presenter Emily Maitlis and Prince Andrew , which led in part to the royal’s resignation from public duties, has been made into a three-part drama by Amazon’s Prime Video. Written by Jeremy Brock and with Maitlis as executive producer, the show will premiere this week just six months after Netflix’s Scoop which also covered the interview.

However, unlike Scoop which was a dramatic retelling of securing the interview and filming it, A Very Royal Scandal will focus on Maitlis’s take on the events leading up to the interview, the event itself and the aftermath for both her and Prince Andrew. When is A Very Royal Scandal out? All three episodes of A Very Royal Scandal will premiere on Thursday 19 September exclusively on Prime Video in the US and UK. Amazon Prime members can watch it without charge as Prime Video is included in Prime membership, which costs £8.

99 a month. Who is in the cast of A Very Royal Scandal? A Very Royal Scandal has a cast of some of Britain’s biggest names from stage and screen. Michael Sheen takes on the role of Prince Andrew in the drama.

The award-winning actor, 55, is no stranger to playing public figures having previously portrayed Tony Blair in films The Deal , The Queen and The Special Relationship . He also portrayed journalist and presenter David Frost in Frost/Nixon and football manager Brian Clough in The Damned United . Ruth Wilson plays Newsnight presenter and interviewer Emily Maitlis.

The Golden Globe-winning actress, 42, has starred in Jane Eyre, The Affair , Mrs Wilson and The Woman in the Wall . She won a Laurence Olivier Award for her role in A Streetcar Named Desire and a Bafta Cymru for His Dark Materials . This is not the first foray into royal drama for Alex Jennings, who played Edward VIII/the Duke of Windsor, in The Crown .

He recently appeared in award-winning ITV drama Mr Bates vs. The Post Office as MP James Arbutnot. The 67-year-old has starred in The Queen, The Lady in the Van, Victoria and A Very English Scandal.
