This week, Amazon Prime Video is set to release A Very Royal Scandal, offering fresh insights into Prince Andrew's notorious Newsnight interview. This follows Netflix's Scoop , which aired just five months ago in April, narrating the same tale but from the viewpoint of ex-BBC producer Sam McAlister. The three-part drama will scrutinise the BBC interview from a unique perspective, with renowned interviewer Emily Maitlis serving as an executive producer.

The drama features a star-studded cast, including acclaimed character actor Michael Sheen who undergoes a complete transformation to play the role of scandal-ridden Royal Prince Andrew, reports the Express . The Duke of York's ex-private secretary Amanda Thirsk is portrayed by Joanna Scanlan from The Thick of It. Meanwhile, the late Queen's private secretary Sir Edward Young is played by Alex Jennings, who previously starred opposite Helen Mirren as Prince Charles in 2006's The Queen. Stewart Maclean, who was deputy editor on Newsnight when Prince Andrew's explosive interview aired in November 2019, is played by Eanna Hardwicke from The Sixth Commandment.

Sarah Ferguson, the ex-wife of Prince Andrew, will be brought to life by Claire Rushbrook, known for her role in the 1996 film Secrets and Lies. However, Sam McAlister, the producer who allegedly secured the Newsnight interview, is conspicuously absent from the main cast list. The former BBC producer will be portrayed by Downton Abbey's Clare Calbraith in Amazon Prime's version of the scandal.

The series has been directed by Julian Jarrold and penned by Jeremy Brock, with Emily serving as an executive producer alongside Julian, Jeremy, Karen Thrussell, Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin and Diarmuid McKeown.
