They sold off “The Day the Earth Blew Up” and buried “Coyote vs. Acme” but Warner Bros. Animation isn’t done with making more Looney Tunes film projects.
WBA studio chief Bill Damaschke appeared at the Lightbox Expo over the weekend and revealed that a new ‘super secret’ Looney Tunes project is currently in the works at Warners according to . He adds that the project is being developed as a major theatrical release, and it will involve directors Todd Wilderman and Hamish Grieve who previously directed Dreamworks’ “Abominable” and are helming the upcoming Hanna-Barbera reboot “Meet the Flintstones”. The news comes ahead of the theatrical release early next year of “The Day the Earth Blew Up,” the first proper fully-animated Looney Tunes movie in years.
Both it and the much talked about “Coyote v Acme” were going to be dumped as tax write-offs at Warner Bros, but Warners opted to sell off the title which landed at Ketchup Entertainment. That film has had very positive reactions out of the world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June and is getting an Oscar-qualifying run in a few weeks ahead of a wider theatrical release very early in 2025..
