PEPPERELL — If you love flowers and working in your yard – or like the idea of learning more about gardening – then you are in luck, as the members of the Pepperell Garden Club are beginning their new season this week. “The goal of the Pepperell Garden Club is to teach about care and maintenance of plants and vegetables,” said Amanda Lamarche, president of the Pepperell Garden Club. “As well as promote the love of gardening.

” The first meeting of the season will be held at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept.

11, at the Albert Harris/Pepperell Senior Center, located at 37 Nashua Road, Route 111. “At this first meeting of the year, we will talk about beautifying gardens using plant bulbs,” said Lesley Blume, vice president of the Pepperell Garden Club. “The meeting will be followed by the annual Plant Swap, a business meeting, and as always, delicious refreshments.

” Members and guests are asked to bring a labeled perennial or houseplant and swap it for another. “Members will discuss some of the unusual plants and how to care for them,” Lamarche said. “If you don’t have a plant to share – no worries, there should be extra plants for sharing.

” The Pepperell Garden Club dates back to 1968 and is “still going strong”. Meetings, along with informative programs, are held on the second Wednesday of the month from September through June at the Albert Harris/ Pepperell Senior Center. “Many members knew little about gardening when they joined but have learned a great deal since,” Lamarche said.

The Pepperell Garden Club, an active organization, is open to residents from all towns. Students are welcome to attend with an adult. “Have you noticed the beautiful landscaping near the VFW and the holiday wreaths around town,” asks Jane Mosher, member of the Pepperell Garden Club.

“It’s our members who enjoy these projects including taking care of the flowers at the rotary, the senior center, at town hall, and maintaining the planters on Main Street.” Many members attend summer garden safaris to enjoy the beauty of gardens local and afar. Best of all the Pepperell Garden Club has its well-known annual plant sale in May.

Members are encouraged to attend programs and events. “The more they do, the more fun they have,” said Diane Murphy, who has been a member for over 20 years. “That’s what makes it a great organization.

” Annual dues are $20 for a year of great informative programs and events; or you are welcome to pay a $5 ($3 for seniors or students) guest fee for a particular program. For more information, visit the Pepperell Garden Club on Facebook or on their website at www.pepperellgardenclub.
