LOS ANGELES — An unfinished mural paying homage to local veterans from East Los Angeles was made complete, Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis announced Friday, July 26. During a news conference Friday morning, Solis, who represents the 1st District, covering East L.A.

neighborhoods and cities, unveiled the panels that were missing from Richard Haro’s “Among the Valiant” mural located at the community center at Ruben F. Salazar Park. Actor Edward James Olmos, known for his roles in “Miami Vice” and “American Me” joined Solis alongside residents and veterans of East L.



A. “I am truly in awe of how beautiful the mural’s completion lights up the community center which serves as a safe space for our seniors,” Solis said in a statement. “Many have been waiting for this moment to see fellow loved ones who have served our country with great pride and honor be memorialized.

” “I thank the family of the artist for gifting us the missing panels and commend the conservators for their dedication and resourcefulness to restore and install them,” her statement continued. From 2006 to 2009, seniors who frequented the park raised funds and solicited photos so that Haro could work on a mural honoring local veterans. After receiving the photos, the artist translated the images into a montage using multiple panels.

He completed the panels and was able to install some in 2010, but due to funding issues, the mural was never completely installed. Haro recently pas.
