In a very fitting turn of events on Saturday Night, a massive 90s chart-topping singer known for her song of the name stunned crowds in two British cities. The iconic Whigfield , who ruled the air waves 30 years ago after her pop-tastic dance tune debuted at number one, was the star attraction at both Glasgow and Newcastle’s Pride events. And rocking bold pink extensions in her hair, it seemed like barely a couple of years had gone by for the 54-year-old Danish singer, songwriter and record producer – real name Sannie Charlotte Carlson – let alone 30.

Whigfield was the big act for both concerts, thanks to the colossal success of her debut single Saturday Night back in 1994. It saw the unknown come straight in at the top spot in the UK chart and knock off Wet Wet Wet’s Love Is All Around, which had been at number one for 15 straight weeks. Singer Whigfield, who also had other hits with songs including Another Day, Think of You and Close to You, shared her excitement over performing at both events afterwards, declaring on Instagram: ‘What a Saturday!’ ‘Had the best time @glasgows_pride @barrowland_ballroom and @newcastlepride yesterday,’ she added in the caption. ‘Thanks for all the hard work behind the scenes and to the amazing party people who came to make the day special ❤️’ The star posted a few snaps from her busy name, including one with drag artist Miss Rory, which saw her in a pink top and thigh-high boots paired with a mini-skirt constructed from rainbow-coloured discs.

For Glasgow’s show she also wowed, donning a silver bodysuit encrusted with crystals. ‘Looking wonderful as always ✨ Love your outfit and the colours,’ commented fan @gamerartisan, while @truecrazylion enthused: ‘You rock the pink hair!’ Whigfield has previously amazed fans with her youthful looks, opening up in 2019 for Saturday Night’s 25th anniversary about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Appearing on TV show Lorraine, she was asked about the secret to looking young.
