Vadodara: Encroachment removal teams of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation ( VMC ) on Wednesday razed nine cattle sheds as part of the crackdown on such illegal structures launched this week. The VMC had earlier focused on eastern parts of the city where there is a serious problem of cattle being let loose on the streets. VMC teams have been constantly impounding cattle, but the problem persists as cattle owners have got more vigilant and shoo away the animals when teams arrive.

Sources said the cattle menace had become more acute in the monsoon when the animals get on roads to avoid staying on wet soil or in flooded plots. VMC officials sought police protection on Wednesday to remove cattle sheds in Wards 9 and 10. A shed in Ward 10 was issued a notice and fined.
