Pune: Seven new police stations will become operational across the city in the next 10 days to tide over rising crime and population and maintain law and order , CP Amitesh Kumar said on Monday. "The proposal for the new police stations at Ambegaon, Nanded City, Baner, Kharadi, Wagholi, Kalepadal, and Phursungi was initiated a few years ago. State govt has approved the proposal," Kumar told TOI.

The city police commissioner (CP) said govt has sanctioned a strength of 816 personnel for the new police stations. They will be recruited during the state police recruitment drive — 50% in the first phase and 25% each in the second and third phases. "As of now, we will pull out manpower from the existing police stations/units/branches to run the new facilities, for which places have been finalised after conducting a survey to meet the requirements of the areas concerned," he said.



Elected representatives have for long demanded new police stations to ensure increased patrolling and prevention of street crimes and property offences in the merged areas. The new facilities will be opened by bifurcating or trifurcating jurisdictions of Bhartiya Vidyapeeth, Sinhagad Road, Chatushrungi, Chandannagar, Lonikand, Hadapsar, Kondhwa, and Wanowrie police stations.
