It's that time of year when we fantasize about getaways — whether it's an escape from the cold or an adventure to look forward to when warmer days arrive. We've found travel inspiration scrolling through our Instagram feeds. A scenic vista, a secluded retreat or a bustling hot spot caught our eye.
Here's a roundup of places within half a day's drive that we have visited or have added to our list. During the trip, be sure to document it — for the 'Gram. Missouri's top-rated nature area on TripAdvisor.
com is a 2,200-acre outdoor recreation and educational park in Lampe, Missouri, about 30 miles southwest of Branson. It has more than 20 miles of hiking, paved biking and walking trails, but the biggest attraction may be the wildlife tram tours. The two-hour tour takes visitors through the canyon, where visitors can spot the herds of deer, longhorn cattle, elk and bison close up.
There are stunning views of the bluffs, waterfalls and Native American caves. Reviewers recommend booking a tour well in advance since spots fill up quickly. There's also a beautiful chapel built in the Ozark forest and an elevated treehouse offering panoramic views.
Park visitors can see a working fish hatchery or try catch-and-release fishing in one of the stocked streams. For dining, the Mill and Canyon Grill is within the park near the visitor center, while the Chalets on Table Rock Lake offer nearby lodging. And as its part of the Big Cedar family, lodging there is an option as well.
