Now Reading: 01 /7 Life lessons to remember The Hanuman Chalisa, composed by Shri Tulsidas ji, is one of the most famous texts about Lord Hanuman in his truest, and most raw form.

The Hanuman Chalisa is a set of 40 hymns that talk about Lord Hanuman, his personality, his strength, his devotion, and his belief in Lord Ram. And hidden between the lines of the Hanuman Chalisa are some life lessons that people often ignore when they just read it for the sake of reading and being done with the chant. 02 /7 The importance of being humble Lines - Vidyavan guni ati chatur, Ram kaj karibe ko aatur This line from the Hanuman Chalisa basically means - ‘He is the one who has all the wisdom in the world, and yet he is ever ready to do the service of Lord Ram’.

As a lesson, it teaches us that even though Lord Hanuman has immense knowledge, virtues, and wisdom, he was forever humble and eager when it came to serving Lord Ram. This teaches us that true wisdom lies in selfless service. No matter how strong, intellectual, or clever we become, being humble and down-to-earth is what gets us ahead.

03 /7 The importance of courage and strength Lines - Bhim roop dhari asur sanghare, Ramachandra ke kaj sanware This line from the Chalisa means - ‘By taking on a gigantic form you destroy all the monsters, just to be able to help Shri Ram and complete his task’. This line teaches us the importance of strength and courage. For example, when Lord Hanuman took on a ‘Vishaal roop’ to torch Lanka with his tail and was successful in instilling a fear among Ravan and others.

Through his strength and determination, Hanuman served Lord Ram in every possible way, and sometimes, to accomplish the tasks, it is important to be courageous and have strength. 04 /7 The importance of quick thinking Lines - Laye Sanjivan Lakhan Jiyaye, Sri Raghubir harashi ur laye This line means - ‘You brought the Sanjivan (the Sanjeevani herb) that helped bring Lakshman back to life and that elated Lord Ram’. When Lakshman was shot with an arrow, the only way he could be saved was with the ‘Sanjeevani booti’ which was found deep in the Himalayas.

While Lord Hanuman flew away to retrieve the herb, he met Kaalnemi, who tried to obstruct his path, and then a confusion about which is the right mountain and herb. In a moment of strength, and quick-thinking, Lord Hanuman defeated Kaalnemi and brought with him the whole mountain so that the right people could identify the Sanjeevani and treat Lakshman. 05 /7 The power of devotion and bhakti Lines - Sankat kate mite sab peera, Jo sumirai Hanumat Balbeera This line from the Chalisa basically means - ‘All your problems, sorrows, and pain will cease to exist when you remember Lord Hanuman’.

Such is the power of devotion and bhakti that as soon as you remember Lord Hanuman, be it in any form, your sorrows seem to go away and you feel like you are protected by a higher force. Be it Hanuman Chalisa, Bajrang Baan, Hanuman Bahuk, or Panchmukhi Hanuman Kavacham, all of these hymns and mantras have a certain power in their words that can make a devotee feel at ease. 06 /7 Be a good friend Line - Tum Upkaar Sugreevhin Kinha, Raam Milaaye Raajpad Dinha This line loosely translates to - ‘You did a great act for Sugriva by introducing him to Lord Ram, and that is what helped him get his royal status back’.

Lord Hanuman became the epitome of a friend to Sugriva when he convinced Lord Ram to fight against Vali (Sugriva’s brother) and restored his Princely status. This is a lesson that if you have a friend, it is important to do your all for them. 07 /7 The importance of belief Line - Sankat Te Hanuman Chhoodawe, Mann Krama Vachan Dhyaan Jo Laawe This line from the Chalisa means - If you submit to Lord Hanuman with pure mind and heart, he will ensure that no problem can ever knock your doors.

This line teaches us the importance of having belief. One cannot expect to outwardly worship a God and expect everything in return to be perfect. It is only with true belief that you can get the help required to overcome the problems in life.
