Pune: The Pune district legal services authority (DLSA) on Saturday sanctioned a compensation of Rs5 lakh to the 21-year-old event management student who was gang raped by three men at Bopdev Ghat on Oct 3. DLSA secretary Sonal Patil told TOI, "On Oct 11, the survivor filed an application with us seeking compensation under the Manodhariya scheme. A seven-member committee comprising officials from the DLSA, Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune rural police, district collectorate and women and child development examined the application, the confessional statement given by her before a magisterial court and the medical report.
They decided to sanction compensation of Rs5 lakh, which will be deposited to her bank account." Patil said, "Our priority is to ensure the survivor receives the support they need without unnecessary delays. The prompt action in deciding her application in the shortest possible time reflects our commitment to justice and the victim's welfare.
" She further said the swift response serves as a model for handling similar cases across the country. It emphasises the need for a victim-centric approach in the legal system, wherein timely compensation can play a crucial role in the victim's recovery and rehabilitation process. The quick dispensation of justice in this case is a positive step towards building public trust in the legal system and encouraging more victims to come forward and seek justice, she added.
