French women have long been known for their effortless approach to beauty, from mussed-up bobs to a barely-there make-up look. But how are they wearing their nails right now? Do they love a “French” as much as we do? We asked five chic Gallic women to share their manicure go-tos. Dolorès Cafier “I don’t ever do colour or fancy art on my nails.

I always do the same thing: short, almond-shaped nails and a very, very fine French manicure. It’s discreet, elegant and I love the ‘my nails, but better’ effect.” Salomé Mory “I have always liked a natural look on my nails – these days I enjoy doing a French manicure.

I like them short, in a rounded square shape. Any longer and I can’t do hands-on activities, like drawing and painting. Sometimes I like a burst of colour, especially in the summer: I recently tried pistachio green on my feet and I really liked that.

In autumn, I go for darker shades like classic burgundy, and I’m also thinking of trying khaki or navy next season too.” Hanna Lhoumeau “For me, manicures are never set in stone. I love both long, rounded nails and short, square ones, and switch between the two.

I find that square shapes add more character, so lend a little something to shorter nails, while a rounded shape is really elegant on longer ones. I like nude colours and the fairy nail trend, where you use pale and nude shades. It’s super fresh.

While I also adore chrome and textured designs, a natural look with a pretty French manicure is all I really need.” Fatou N’Diaye “I love a nude colour on my nails – it’s a versatile colour that goes with all my outfits. I file my nails into an almond or ballerina shape.

” Jeanne Damas “During summer I go against the grain and wear absolutely nothing on my toenails and fingernails, because I like to give them a break in the sea and fresh air – I find natural hands so pretty when they’re tanned.” For foolproof French nails..
