The 4-H chapter in Chaves County is sending kids to show off their talents at the Eastern New Mexico State Fair. Traditionally, kids from across Chaves County will be exhibiting the different skills and the livestock the kids have raised throughout the year. The age range of the participants will be eight to 17.
The Pirtle family has participated in 4-H for generations and has four kids entering the fair. Molly is the oldest, at 14, and will be primarily doing indoor exhibits with different clothes, leather crafts, a quilt, ceramics, origami and other arts and crafts that she will be showing off. One of her projects is even being judged at an event.
The second oldest in the family, Mazie, will enter clothing, quilts, ceramics, and jewelry. The third oldest, Josie, does clothing and arts and crafts like her sisters, but also adds floral arrangements, baking, and photography. The youngest, Emmett, does arts and crafts with clothing like his siblings, but he also does Legos.
They said they look forward to competing and are ready to have fun at the many fair festivities throughout the week. The Heimark family is also sending some of their kids to the fair, two to be exact. Charles is the oldest at 12 years old and has been part of 4-H for two years and has done poultry, baking, rabbits, welding and woodwork.
For the fair, he will be showing off turkeys, ducks and chickens for poultry. He will also be putting in Satins, which are a breed of rabbits. He will also have some indoor e.
