A group that has proposed to build the northernmost hotel on upper King Street has acquired the land it needs for the project. The commercial real estate firm NAI Charleston announced the $4.75 million transaction this week.

The buyer of the five parcels that front 657 King and 64 Line streets is locally based CKC Properties, which plans to develop a six-story hotel with 27 guest suites and commercial space. The seller was Twisted Bubble LLC. CKC Properties began working on a hotel project for the site in March.

Founder Colin Knight Colbert said it made sense to now acquire the property. Unique Charleston office deal gives way to possible hotel plan “Our concept for the boutique hotel is to provide a luxury unique alternative for young families and group travelers desiring a full kitchen, in-suite washer/dryers, dining areas, private bedrooms and bathrooms for each traveler, and on-site amenities, all while still maintaining the safety and security of checking into a hotel with a lobby and 24-hour staff on site,” Colbert said in a statement. He said he worked with the city and the neighborhood to ensure his firm could build the project as intended, adding that he received support along with the suggestion to move parking from underneath the planned building to allow for more commercial activity on the ground level.
