Prayagraj : As part of preparations for the Maha Kumbh-2025, the Jalkal department has taken up works related to construction of 36 new tube wells as well as reboring of others in and around mela area on priority basis to ensure clean drinking water for over 40 crore people expected to visit the mega event. General manager of Jalkal department in Prayagraj Gaurav Kumar said: "The installation of 36 tube wells is almost 75% done. In the first phase, five new tube wells are being set up at a cost of Rs 4.

5 crore while another six had to be rebored. Similarly, in the second phase, 13 tube wells are being built at a cost of Rs 9 crore while another 12 are being rebored." The localities receiving the most attention, include Daraganj, Kydganj, Mutthiganj, Chhota Baghada, Baihrana, Sohbatiya Bagh, Teliyar Ganj, Govindpur, Jhunsi, and Naini.



Officials said water from these new tube wells will be used to ensure regular irrigation of the plants in the green belts made as part of city beautification efforts. Additionally, new public standposts are being installed in the city to cater to the needs of the massive religious gathering, with water supply being provided by the tube wells. They said UP Jal Nigam (urban) will construct toilets in parking areas and standposts at a cost of Rs 56 lakh, and the tender for this project has already been issued.
