Pune: At least 21 out of 23 passengers on board a private luxury bus were injured after the bus crashed into a truck from behind at Devale village near Lonavla along the Pune-Mumbai expressway in the early hours of Thursday. Vijay Gale, investigating officer the Lonavla Rural police said the injured are being treated in a private hospital at Somatane Phata. "Eleven passengers suffered fractures.
Three of them are being treated in the ICU," Gale said. He said that the accident happened when a private luxury bus, which was on its way to Borivali in Mumbai from Kolhapur, crashed into the rear plying ahead in the middle lane of the Pune-Mumbai expressway. "The right side of the bus was damaged in the accident," Gale said.
He said that teams from the Lonavla Rural police, highway safety patrol (HSP) reached the accident spot and rescued the passengers.. Gale said, "Prima facie investigations revealed that the driver dozed-off and crashed into the truck plying ahead.
A case of negligent driving is being registered against the bus driver,".
