JUDY Murray has abandoned plans for a centre of tennis excellence despite securing £10million of funding in recent weeks. Local Tory MSP Alexander Stewart said: “People fought hard to protect this highly valued green belt area. “This should never have been considered for such a development and it has turned into a complete fiasco. “I’m delighted at this U-turn.

They added: “Judy has invested significant time and encountered opposition for much of that period. “However, she persevered until several factors conspired to leave the project unviable in current form.

The project was originally rejected in 2015 but Scottish ministers backed it.
