“We are not in a position to comment on any future product plans until they are confirmed,” a Mitsubishi Australia spokesperson said. We do know what equipment the Triton GLX-R has thanks to the dealership’s post. Based on the GLX+, it gains some equipment from the higher-spec GLS including standard-duty rear suspension (in place of the GLX+’s heavy-duty setup), the Super Select 4WD II system, and highway terrain Maxxis tyres.

The GLX-R’s black sports bar and 18-inch alloy wheels are borrowed from the flagship GSR, while a leather-wrapped steering wheel and carpet flooring also feature. It continues to be powered by a 2.4-litre bi-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine, producing 150kW of power at 3500rpm and 470Nm of torque from 1500-2750rpm.

A six-speed automatic transmission is standard. No Triton in Australia is available yet with a six-speed manual. All Mitsubishi Tritons are backed by a 10-year, 200,000km warranty if you service the ute through Mitsubishi dealers.
