THE Department of Science and Technology ( DOST ) celebrated groundbreaking advancements and a renewed vision for the Philippine textile industry at the 2024 Philippine Textile Congress which brought together leaders, scientists, and policymakers to discuss the role of innovation in transforming the industry and fostering sustainable development in the country. In his message, DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr.
cheered the Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) for its commitment to elevating textile research and fostering innovation across the sector. He also commended PTRI for “rising to the challenge” and producing remarkable innovations, emphasizing the integral role of textiles in daily life. He likewise extended an invitation to stakeholders and the public to join the nation’s journey in advancing the textile sector , highlighting its importance to everyday living and economic development.
Sen. Juan Miguel F. Zubiri, who was the event’s guest of honor, underscored the pivotal role of research and development (R&D) and science and technology (S&T) in driving national growth.
He also expressed his steadfast support for DOST’s initiatives, including the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) and PTRI’s robust textile program. “I believe in Science & Technology,” he said as he stressed the importance of exemplary S&T education to cultivate future experts and innovators and also shared his pride in securing an increased budget for DOST to enhance.
