The hotly-anticipated Albums of the Year TV programme is set to be filmed and broadcasted live from Abbey Road Studios on September 5. The Mercury Prize recognises and celebrates the Albums of the Year, establishing a reputation for highlighting the work of emerging talent and established musicians.

Charli XCX's album BRAT has so far been warmly received by critics and fans so it's no surprise it has been named as one of the 12 nominations. Cat Burns was also picked up for album Early Twenties while The Last Dinner Party will also receive an award for Prelude to Ecstasy. Indie outfit The Last Dinner Party, comprising Abigail Morris, Lizzie Mayland, Emily Roberts, Georgia Davies and Aurora Nishevci, have also been nominated for their debut offering Prelude To Ecstasy, which topped the charts following its release in February. The group was named the winner of BBC Radio 1's Sound of 2024 in January and have played a number of festivals this summer including Glastonbury and TRNSMT. Among the other acts in the running for the Mercury Prize are Corinne Bailey Rae, who has returned with the album Black Rainbows, and Irish singer CMAT with her album Crazymad, For Me.

A slew of debut records have made the shortlist this year including Early Twenties by singer Cat Burns and Silence Is Loud by jungle artist Nia Archives. Mobo award winner Ghetts, who stars in Netflix series Supacell, has also been shortlisted for the record On Purpose, With Purpose. Elsewhere When Will We Land? by the Scottish DJ Barry Can't Swim has been nominated alongside the record Who Am I by rapper BERWYN.

Corto.alto's Bad With Names is also nominated, alongside English Teacher's This Could Be Texas and Lives Outgrown by Portishead singer Beth Gibbons. The overall winner of the 2024 Mercury Prize will be revealed in September. The programme will be shown on BBC Four at 8pm and BBC Radio 6 Music will also be broadcasting ‘Mercury Prize 2024 Live’ from 7pm to 11pm. Tom Ravenscroft and Deb Grant with present the awards, with Matt Everitt interviewing the artists behind each of the 12 Albums of The Year.

The show will include the announcement of the overall winner of the 2024 Mercury Prize, which will be announced live at around 9pm. Last year, Ezra Collective won the 2023 Mercury Prize with their second studio album Where I'm Meant To Be. The jazz quintet were among a dozen acts who were in the running for the prestigious award - alongside Raye, Arctic Monkeys and Fred Again.
